It’s hot. Really hot.
Summer just got here, but Texas has already broken records for electric consumption in June. It’s an ominous beginning to what we all hope won’t be like last summer, when we set records for having the most 100-degree days in a year and for daily and monthly electric consumption.
Hot temperatures and record-setting electric consumption also mean another thing – high electric bills. As Bluebonnet’s General Manager Mark Rose often says, “Nobody has ever seen an August electric bill they liked.”
Especially in June.
Especially not when so many people are struggling to pay their other bills. While there is no relief from the heat for at least a few months, families that need help paying their electric bills can get it from a number of organizations. Bluebonnet works with more than 20 organizations in and around our service area that provide financial assistance for people who need a little help.
“As soon as people start getting their June electric bills we see an increase in people needing assistance,” said Barbara Seilheimer, Bluebonnet’s manager of member services. “We make payment arrangements with our members who need a little extra time to pay their bills. For those who need financial assistance we refer them to the many wonderful organizations in our area that can provide it.”
